Sew Mama Sew... Above and Beyond Creative Sewing (Giveaway!)

Sew, here's the deal... I always do the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. It' twice a year, it's fun and I get to meet a ton of cool people that love quilting!!!

Sew, I'll try to make it short an sweet. My favorite sewing shop, Above and Beyond Creative Sewing in Nanuet, NY is sponsoring me for this giveaway!

Here's the prize:

It's 10 spools of Robison Anton Embroidery thread. That's about 11,000 yards!

I discovered Above and Beyond Creative Sewing at the local quilt shows. They sell Tin Lizzie, Pfaff and Singer sewing machines. Those of you that follow me know that I have a Pfaff and I got my first long arm (Tin Lizzie) last year! They sold it to me! And let me tell you, they have been the best! They have great customer service, awesome support, and I just love my Tin Lizzie! They really, truly go "above and beyond" making sure I am happy :) As an example, if I have an issue or a question about something I can call them... even after hours! And, they are always happy to help me out :) They also have a quilting club that meets every 2 months. People come from all over the Northeast to attend the club and it's a ton o fun! We do show and tell, talk about issues we might be having, share ideas and learn something new every time!

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, one of the winners! Just wanted to give her a shout out with some blog love. Got the package today!

It had a nice note in it and I have to say: it's my first homeade pin cushion *blushing* I have no idea what to do with ribbons! But, I have already planned a home for the thread and the pin cushion ;)

WIP Wednesdays - All Queened Out

I have to say this is quite a large project for me. I am still working on my Mom's queen sized quilt (Posts: here, here, here, here, and here, as well as another WIP Wednesday). It's starting to give me an enormous sense of accomplishment. As you can see in the first picture below, the quilt top doesn't even fit on my design wall. And imagine, the back will be even larger!

 Here is a shot of the border up close. I wanted a print that would compliment the log cabin blocks.

Here I am working on the backing. I back piece, so I used some of the leftover fabrics (and I stashed some). I also used my signature in the horizontal strip (something Wizard of Oz).

Although I do not have a picture of this, the back is finished and I used 55 inches of an old sheet (king sized) that is light blue with a white pin stripe. We never used this sheet anymore because we changed our decor, so I recycled it in the best way I know how, and saved some moolah in the meantime!

I have already started quilting it. I am using an orange thread (Gutermann polyester). I did not have enough, so I took a break from it. Yesterday my supportive husband stopped by Joann's on the way home from work and got me more. Also, I learned something from this experience. Don't lose the labels on the top of the thread. They have a number on them so you can match the color!!! I think he did well on matching it and honestly, if it's not right, no one will probaly even notice :)

I am using a quilting pattern/style/technique that I saw at Oh, Fransson! called Loopy Flowers. It's working well, although my hubby commented that he was not sure he liked it :( I did it slightly different (and I think theirs look better). I am doing one on each log cabin block (and breaking thread between each). That's 42 flowers!!! I've done about 8 flowers so far.

Anyway, I am linking up at Freshly Pieced's Work in Progress Wednesdays.  I am sure you will hear more about this quilt soon. I'm off Friday so it's a three day weekend for me and I hope to get it finished (and bound).
