Who says you can't quilt a big ass quilt on a home machine?

Just a quick post to let you all know what I am up to today! I'm finally quilting the hexie quilt!!!!!

And, I finally have 3 likes on my Facebook page! Woohoo!

I'm using an orange thread and a stippling pattern with little flower designs every now and then. I still haven't decided how to quilt the hexagon flowers yet. Let me know if you have suggestions.

Until next time,

Mike.

You now have 4 likes on your Facebook page! I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses a small machine to quilt large quilts! So happy to hear this!!

Awesome- I think we've got the same sewing machine but I've not done anything bigger than about 60" yet!

Depends on the throat space of your machine. I only have a 6" throat on all three of my machines - only did one queen quilt and decided that was enough!

Congratulations on your progress. Looks amazing!

I was quilting on my domestic machine and saving money for a quilting machine "some day" when my grandmother died. My husband encouraged me to use that money & buy a used quilting machine. I did and I love it (HQ16) but I still sometimes just use the domestic. Just not for the queen size anymore!

You could go around the edges of the outer pieces of a hexie like flower petals, and then do a flower in the center one like you are doing all over the quilt. Then the hexies would look like big flowers.

Congratulations on getting to grips with a big quilt on a domestic machine! I have been putting off doing the same for months :)

Love the design too - the addition of the flowers is a great idea.
Good to show that quilting a big quilt on a DSM is so "do-able".

Thanks for liking my peppermint pizzaz on "dream quilt create". I will like your facebook page if you like mine! Ha ha! I am amazed that you are quilting that huge quilt on a regular machine. You are brave! I would stitch in the ditch, around each little hexie, that would make them pop and be really pretty on the back.

You've given me hope that I can quilt a queen-size top on my Featherweight. Wish me luck!

Love this quilt and the flowers that you're stitching onto it - awesome job! I gotta get back on my cat quilt... as soon as the temp drops quite a few degrees!
